2024
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Thanks for your interest in submitting to the 2024 Flyover Comedy Festival in St. Louis, MO. Below are some guidelines we need everyone to follow to ensure a smooth selection process.

Submission Dates: March 1 - May 31. Note that we will not accept ANY submissions after the close of the process. Don’t wait until the last minute to submit. The sooner, the better.

Cost: Submissions are $35. The rate is the same for all submissions categories.

Categories: Submissions are divided into three categories: Standup, Improv, and Sketch/Variety. Live podcasts, storytelling shows and other concepts may be submitted to the Sketch/Variety category. If you are submitting a live podcast, you may submit audio of your favorite episode, though a video of a live show is strongly recommended.

Video: Standup comics, we will watch four minutes. Please send us a video of no more than 4-7 minutes of your best stand-up. Any video taken prior to January 2023 will not be considered. This is so we can be assured that you aren’t sending us the same performance you’ve been doing since the Reagan Administration.

Improv performers, your video should be no longer than 20 minutes

Sketch shows, variety shows, and podcasts: a video of a LIVE performance is required (If a podcast, this can be a video stream of a recording). Your video should be under an hour, but long enough for a panel of judges to make a fair assessment of whether or not your act should take a significant time block of festival programming. If your best material is contained in a video of a longer set, please specify a time stamp in the form as needed.

Other Materials: In addition to your submission video, we will also require a headshot/press photo, a professional bio and links to all social media accounts relevant to your performance. Any social media accounts submitted that are not public will be rejected. All of these materials are subject for use in festival advertising and any relevant marketing material related to Flyover Comedy both prior to and after the festival. Please make sure you have copyright clearance for anything you submit.

Notification: We will notify all applicants of acceptance or rejection by August 1, 2024.

Acceptance: Stand-up comics chosen for the festival will perform at least two shows. Sketch/variety shows and improv teams who are selected to perform at the festival will be offered one performance slot. If you’re accepted and have a conflict on any of the days of the festival (Nov. 14-16, 2024), please let us know as soon as possible as we might be able to schedule around your availability.

Additionally, Flyover performers will receive an artist badge giving them full access to all shows in The Grove and social events. You will also receive some food throughout the fest, including dinner each night.

Traveling Submissions-Based Performer Perks & Accommodations: If accepted to the festival, Flyover Comedy Festival will take care of your hotel stay at The Cheshire, nightly meals, Saturday lunch, and reimburse your airfare up to $300.00. Additionally, we offer performers complimentary headshots and at least one taping of a set at the festival. You will also receive a tote bag with a 2024 festival tee, poster, coupons for neighborhood businesses, and other goods.

Local Submissions-Based Performer Perks & Accommodations: If accepted to the festival, Flyover Comedy Festival will provide you with spots on the festival, nightly meals, Saturday lunch, complimentary headshots, a taping of a set at the festival, and a tote bag including a 2024 festival tee, poster, coupons for neighborhood businesses, and other goods.

Transparency: The festival submissions panel includes members of the Flyover Comedy Festival board, experienced performers and several non-comedians and people outside of the industry who bring a fresh perspective to the judging process. Each submission is graded on quality of performance. The judges’ scores are averaged, and there is a long process of whittling down the list.
