Thank you for your interest in performing at the Flyover Comedy Festival.
We’re working to be the most transparent comedy festival because we want to have a reputation of being as high-quality as possible, but also by being fair to comedians who often feel like the festival process is rigged. To that end, please make sure you take the time to read all of this before you decide to submit.
Submissions for the second annual 2018 festival will open April 16 and will close June 15. Comedians, sketch groups, improv teams, and podcasts will be notified about whether they are selected or rejected by August 1.
Any stand-up comics tapped to perform will perform several times during the festival. Sketch/variety shows and improv teams who are selected to perform at the festival will be offered one performance slot. All festival performers will be listed in the program, advertising materials and on the festival website.
Additionally, Flyover performers will receive an artist badge giving them full access to all shows and special events related to the festival. You will also receive some food throughout the fest and travel vouchers. You will not receive payment for performing unless arrangements are made prior to the festival.
If you are chosen to perform at the festival and need help finding inexpensive lodging, please email email@example.com. Performers are responsible for their own transportation and accommodations.
Our submissions fee is a flat rate of $25.00 across the board until June 15.
If you are a stand-up comic and also wish to submit your show to the festival, please mention the show in your stand-up submission with all relevant information/links. You do not need to pay the submission fee twice, though the festival will require you to fill out a separate submission form for your show.
An anonymous selection committee of eight individuals, from varied backgrounds representing the four categories, will review all submissions and numerically rate performers/shows based on the following criteria:
Your submission video should be no longer than five minutes. We will instruct our panel of submission judges to not watch beyond the five-minute mark of any video. A longer video could work against you, so please be courteous as we anticipate having to watch a lot of videos and send us your best stuff.
A video of a recent performance (within the last 9 months) is required. Improv videos should be 8-20 minutes in length.
A video of a recent LIVE performance is required. Your submission video should be at least 5 minutes in length and feature the actual show you are submitting to the festival.
A link to your podcast is required. If you prefer to share one episode over the others, then feel free to provide a link to that specific episode. Please note that this is a comedy festival, and while a wide variety of podcast topics/interests will be considered, the podcasts that make our submissions committee laugh the most will win out at the end of the day.
***Any video/audio that was taken prior to November 2017 will not be considered. This is so we can be assured that you aren’t sending us the same five minutes you’ve been doing since the Bush Administration. You can try to slip one past us if you want, but you’re doing so at your own risk. Any video/audio dated before November 2017 will be automatically disqualified and your submission fee will NOT be refunded.
In addition to your submission video, we will also require a headshot, a personal bio and links to all social media accounts relevant to your standup. Any social media accounts submitted that are not public will be rejected. All of these materials are subject for use in festival advertising and any relevant marketing material related to Flyover Comedy both prior to and after the festival. Please make sure you have copyright clearance for anything you submit.
